Dr. Clayton Smith graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. He completed a 1-year internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, California. Dr. Smith has been an associate with top equine veterinary practices honing his skills in the sports medicine field. Clayton moved back to his home state of Texas after spending a year working under a lameness specialist, Dr. Robert Barber. This horse show practice was based out of Ocala, FL and traveled with the East Coast hunter/jumper circuit, serving as the official veterinarians for numerous horse shows including the HITS East Coast series, the Capital Challenge Horse Show, and the Washington International Horse Show.

SPORTS MEDICINE
In order to keep up with this increased stress for horses to perform to a higher standard, veterinary care has had to raise the bar to accommodate performance and soundness. Improved imaging with digital radiographs (X-rays) and ultrasound has increased diagnostic capabilities. Regenerative medicine such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy has allowed for greater healing capabilities. As demands for more training and higher levels of performance continues, this will drive higher standards for sports medicine care for our equine partners.
